This car looks straight from the one pic. Be sure it has all the chrome and that it looks decent. unless you wanna go race car and do the new carbon fiber replacements or something. haha.
The wiper door missing is not surprising, those are freaking soul-crushing to get working right because the car has to maintain a vacuum to keep it closed. You could always get a hood like a later year that replaces the wiper door of course (a popular mod since it eliminates the insanity of the vacuum system).
I’m going to say the lights probably won’t work because of the missing wiper door, but they could have been replaced with electric units. Still, all marker lights seem to be where the chrome is..
Anyway, looks like a great project!

Car comes with chrome but it’s a bit rusty and pitted. Will need re-doing anyways. Car has a freshly powdercoated frame from a ‘69 and all new suspension bushings, arms etc. It starts and drives but isn’t really road worthy. The ask is $6,500 USD. What do you think?

The chrome sounds bad, if you wanted to go the route of a restoration that might be a deal breaker right there. Or at least a BIG discount. The car is already priced low but that chrome is almost not worth the cost to redo (it depends of course). Chrome shops vary by state (environmental laws), and it’s not always possible to redo stuff the way we used to. Even if you can get it re-chromed it might not be the same type of finish.
The new powder-coat on the frame and new suspension bits sound great, the fact that it does run and drive, at least some, might make it worthwhile if you get enough of a discount and depending on your intention.
If you want a restored shiny c3, you can find a better starting point but it will probably cost more. It does not look like a basket case, but it really will be a lot of work and in the end may cost more than a fully restored one (it’s more fun to build it but still you have to consider that). I think could be a great car if you wanted to do some hot rodding. It does need to have a solid birdcage but the fresh frame work would indicate this car was deemed worthy.
This one is on the fence. Not CP but not easily restorable.

Just out of curiosity, how did you pick a local mechanic to go take a look?

Total godsend for buying cars remotely. Cost me $120 US and I got a VERY thorough inspection of the car and 50 pictures sent to my phone by an ASE certified guy. COuldn’t be happier.
